With another day
off granted by Ms. Reid, I decided to take the opportunity to really explore
New York City. A few members of
the Reid Group and I had been anticipating to see the Statue of Liberty since
our arrival in New York, so heading to Liberty Park was top priority on the
to-do list.
A beautiful sunny
day, with the right amount of breeze made for perfect weather to enjoy a
relaxing day of site seeing. The feeling of not being on a deadline or juggling
many assignments at once was such a relief, kind of like Deniece William’s,
Free Lyrics, “I just wanna be
free.” Freedom to enjoy what life has to offer, while letting my footsteps
guide the way. We took a 15-minute
train ride to Liberty Park and as soon as we hoped off, there was giant yellow
sign that read, “Liberty State Park.” There were so many people from different
walks off life standing in line to see the New York’s iconic monument. The wait
was fairly short and when the announcement was made to jump on board, everyone
rushed to get the closest seat to where they could see the statue. Everyone had
their cameras, and iPhones ready as we headed near the Statue of Liberty,
snapping pictures from left to right. Seeing the statue was such a patriotic
moment as we stood in silence, observing its beauty. We began to slowly drift away until the huge statue became a
small speckle and we were finally backed at the dock.
Everyday I’m
accomplishing more than what I’d imagined here in New York and turning my
dreams into realities. In the
words of Atlanta hip-hop mogul, Kenny Burns, "The dream is real!”
